What should you bring
Early in the morning pick up from your Hotel in Cusco, to start our trip through Andean mountains, beautiful landscapes, folkloric rural communities such as Paucartambo and Ninamarca (chullpas or funerary tombs) that belong to the pre-Inca LUPACAS culture. Then we climb the last mountain to reach Acjanaco, the entrance to the MANU NATIONAL PARK, from where we will descend to the lush cloud forest that is home to a wide variety of wild flora and fauna. Being an ideal place for epiphytes, orchids, broméelas, etc. It is there that we will explore the cloud forest and we can appreciate the National bird of Peru, the colorful Cock of the Rock in its ritual mating dance, as well as toucans, trogons, quetzals, monkeys and hopefully the spectacled bear of South America (Tremantus ornatos). ). Continuing our excursion for the day, we head to the Patria Valley, small towns in the Amazon and arrive at our first lodge. We will have dinner and free time to enjoy some cold drinks. To then spend the night in our comfortable rooms.
In the morning we wake up to the song of the birds and the exuberant Amazon jungle, it is time to enjoy our healthy breakfast to explore the lush forest Amazon, then we go to visit the hummingbird garden, and then go to the of Atalaya where we will board our motor boat to navigate the river Alto Madre de Dios, Once in the port of shipment of Atalaya, we will have lunch and then we will board our boat to navigate the Alto Madre de Dios River for approx. 2 hours to the Santa Cruz ranger station to check our tickets. Where the Machiguenga and Guanapaire natives await us, we will embark on their small wooden boat (called pequepeque) along the Teparo river for approximately 2h00 rainy season (from March to August) until we reach our camp (Pusharo lodge) . We will taste a typical dinner of the region in an experiential way with its locals, spend the night in the Pusharolodge.
The day starts very early at 4:30 a.m. We will get up to have a hot drink. At 5:00 am. We will board the boat and navigate for 5 hours along the Palotoa Teparo River until we reach the point where the petroglyphs are engraved on the rock, 30 meters long and 8 meters high, these signs represent rivers, mountains and places of settlements. Located in the territory of the legendary kingdom of Gran Paititi or the lost city of El Dorado. we arrive at the petroglyphs around 10 am we explore, the natives will perform a ceremony and tell us about this extraordinary legend of the lost city of El Dorado.
After lunch, we will return to the camp,
Throughout this tour we will have the opportunity to see the flora and fauna of the Manu National Park such as the Tapir, Deer, Capybara, Jaguar, and all the exuberant birds that inhabit the park.
Overnight at Pusharo Lodge.
After breakfast we will take a tour of the surroundings of the lodge to learn more about the medicinal plants that the natives use. Then we will sail from the lodge to the Machiguenga native community for 30 minutes, we will share a typical lunch, their way of life, and the natives will show us the daily activities in the community such as agriculture, fishing, textiles. We say goodbye to this magnificent community, and continue sailing by boat on the palotoa teparo river, until we reach the port of Santa Cruz where the boat awaits us to go upriver to our next lodge in Atalaya, we will cross the leafy plantations of fruits and vegetables, such as tangerine, lemon, banana, yucca, cocoa, avocado, chirimolla bread of jungle, let’s scrap some of these fruits to finally reach the lodge. Free time at night to go on the tapir trail to search for tarantulas and snakes.
After breakfast we will demonstrate the cocoa process, until we achieve a delicious chocolate, then we will visit the pongo de coñeq, which is a rock formation very similar to a canyon in the Alto Madre de Dios River, after this activity we arrive at the boat port watchtower where our tourist transport awaits us that takes us to the city of Cuzco.
